The shape of a Dutch sentence

Every main clause in Dutch is a frame. The finite verb sits in position two. The rest of the verbs cluster at the right edge. Everything else — subjects, objects, time, place — fills the middle. Once you can see the frame, the order stops feeling arbitrary.
